High Precision Metrology Instruments for Multi-Part Measurement

One of the primary challenges of manufacturing high precision parts on a large industrial scale is ensuring uniformity within, and across, product batches. Minor deviations in roundness, roughness, contours, and overall form can render precision components unusable for their design intent. Instead, we have developed metrology instruments with a multi-part measurement technique that enables the simultaneous inspection of over thirty parts without operator intervention. This technique utilizes the Talyrond® 500HS; the world-leading metrology instrument for fast and reliable roundness measurements.

How does Multi-Part Measurements work using Talyrond 500HS

The rotary stage attachment for the Talyrond® 500HS is a bespoke fixture comprising a tailored carousel and a socket that connects directly into the V grooves of the Talyrond® 500HS. This augments our singular metrology instrument to facilitate a multi-part measurement system specialized for roundness measurements of distinct parts.

In a test environment, this metrology instrument was used to measure twenty samples, twenty times. The results gave an extremely low standard deviation of below 10 nanometers (nm), with an average spread of 20.6 nm. These measurements demand no additional software, running through the metrology instrument’s standard array. They are fully automated and offer exceptional levels of throughput that significantly exceeds traditional metrology instruments.
