06/11/09 Gothic Arch Analysis Aids Bearing Manufacturers
Data is collected via any Form Talysurf instrument running under Windows NT (older systems can be upgraded). A stylus is traversed across the inner or outer raceway and data points spaced 0.25um apart are sent to the system PC. The Gothic Arch tool electronically fits the nominal bearing diameter into the raceway profile and the parameters - radius, radius offset, vertex angle and ball clearance - are automatically calculated for on-screen display or colour printout.
In addition, Ultra - the standard system software - can remove the form or shape of the profile to create a "straight" line. From this modified- profile traditional roughness and waviness parameters such as Ra, Rz, Wt and Mr (Material ratio) can be calculated.
Gothic Arch expands capability of the already comprehensive Ultra operating software that powers all of Taylor Hobson's surface finish and roundness measuring instruments. It is part of the Ultra Utilities collection that has been created to meet requirements specific to various manufacturing segments. The Utilities collection is continually evolving and driven by industry demand as well as customer relationships.
